This is the support that makes a shared house work, and ResicareSA delivers it in homes we run ourselves — 24 of them, across five South Australian regions. Because we are both the housing provider and the support provider in most of our homes, the roster, the house rules and the household budget are worked out in one conversation rather than three.
Living with housemates works when the everyday things are sorted: who cooks, how the shopping happens, when the bins go out, how disagreements get resolved. This support covers the shared running of a home rather than the personal care within it.
In practice that means support workers helping the household plan meals and shop together, share cleaning and laundry in a way that is fair, hold regular house meetings, and work through the ordinary friction of shared living before it becomes a problem. Where housemates have different routines, communication styles or support needs, we build that into the roster rather than expecting everyone to fit one pattern.
This support is usually delivered alongside Supported Independent Living in one of our homes, but it can also apply to a home you have found yourself.
