The point of this support is that you need less of it over time, and ResicareSA treats that as the measure of whether it is working. We deliver it across Adelaide and the country towns we operate in, in your own home and in the places you actually use — your kitchen, your bank, your bus route — rather than in a classroom.
This is the support that works itself out of a job. Rather than doing a task for you, a support worker teaches it — breaking it down, practising it with you, and stepping back as you take it on.
The skills people usually want are the everyday ones: cooking a handful of meals you actually like, managing a bank account and a budget, doing your own shopping, using public transport on a route you need, handling your own laundry and cleaning, making appointments and speaking for yourself in them, and using a phone or computer for the things that matter to you.
We set the goals with you, write down what each step looks like, and track progress honestly — including where something is not working and needs a different approach. Skill building is slow, and it should be measured over months rather than weeks.
