ResicareSA holds the Innovative Community Participation registration, which funds something narrower than it sounds: supports designed around one person's goal when the standard group programs do not reach it. We deliver it across the Adelaide metro area and the country regions we work in, and it usually starts with a conversation about what you want to be doing rather than what we already run.

What it looks like in practice
A support worker with the right background helps you pursue a particular interest to the point where it becomes real. The support is written as a goal with a defined outcome and a plan to get there, and it ends or changes when the goal is reached.
- Joining a mainstream sporting club rather than a disability-specific one, with a worker who knows the sport
- Building a small enterprise or market stall, from the first product to the first sale
- Working towards a volunteer role you actually want, including the training it needs
- Developing a creative practice: music, art, photography, writing, with time in real venues
- Learning the specific technology or transport route you need to take part in something
- Getting into a course, a men's shed, a choir, a gym, a faith community
How it differs from standard community participation
Standard community participation, which we also provide, is support to get out and do things: shopping, the movies, a sporting event, a swim, a group outing. It is funded under Assistance with Social and Community Participation and works well when the goal is to be out and connected.
Innovative community participation is for when the goal is specific and the usual options do not get you there. It is more planned, more often one-to-one, and measured against the outcome you named at the start. Many people use both: a weekly group for connection and an individual program for the one thing they are working towards.
Adelaide and regional South Australia
In Adelaide the support is delivered from our Nailsworth office across the north, north-east, west and south. In the regions it runs from our homes in Kadina and Wallaroo, Whyalla and Port Augusta, and Loxton in the Riverland, which covers Berri, Renmark, Barmera and Waikerie. Regional goals are often about distance: getting to a club or a course in the next town without depending on family.
Funding and how to start
Community participation supports are paid from the Core budget, and some capacity-building goals sit under Increased Social and Community Participation. The rate follows the NDIS pricing arrangements for the staffing ratio and time of day, and transport is agreed in advance. Tell us the goal, and we will write a plan and a quote for you and your coordinator to check against the plan.

Is this a group program?
No. Innovative community participation is individual by design. We also run group community participation and school holiday programs for people who want the social side.
